The Promising Star: Raghu Dixit

Raghu Dixit ( Kannada: ರಘು ದೀಕ್ಷಿತ್), born on November 11, 1974,is an Indian singer-songwriter, producer, and film score composer based in Bangalore, India. He is most famous for fronting the Raghu Dixit Project, a multilingual folk music band. Though a gold medalist in Masters in Microbiology and a proficient Indian classical dancer (Vidwat in Bharatanatyam), Raghupathy Dixit is now known more as a self-taught composer and musician. Originally from Mysore, he settled in Bengaluru. As the founder-front man of his band Antaragni for more than eight years, and now of The Raghu Dixit Project, Dixit has performed more than 250 concerts all over India. In 2008, The Raghu Dixit Project launched its debut album Antaragni: The Fire Within. Raghu is a self-taught guitarist and singer. The most catchy part of Raghu's concert is his unique voice which goes beyond ranges and the measured humor that he puts in without any effort. His unique combination of traditional Indian sounds mixed with western influences has brought him firmly into the spotlight

Dixit's music is an amalgamation of Indian ethnic music and styles from different parts of the world. In an interview with Vishnupriya Bhandaram of The Hindu, he mentions, "“Every 200 kilometres in this country, languages change, the dialects change and the food changes, lives and lifestyles change and my music is unique and probably the USP is that it's sung in a vernacular tongue… its adds mystery.” His lyrics are about every common man's emotions and experience. His songs Mysore se aayi, Mumbai, Antaragni, Hey Bhagwan, Har Saans Mein, Gudugudiya, Khidki are popular among his fans. Most of his songs are influenced by Shishunala Sharif, a saint and poet from the state of Karnataka in India.

Dixit has produced music for contemporary dance and theatre productions. He has composed and produced music for most of the productions by the Indian contemporary dance group Nritarutya. Girish Karnad's Hayavadana for TopCast and Black Coffee's Body Catcher have been his most famous works that brought him critical acclaim as a composer for theatre productions.[citation needed]

In May 2008 Dixit joined Springboard Surprises' Roots Festival for a number of shows, touring many towns and cities within Northeast India, with international acts including Israel's DUB LFO and England's Too Late Lucy. Raghu Dixit also composes music for feature films.

My Personal Favourites are :
1. Hey Bhagwan Mujhko Tu
2. Har Saans Mein

Independence and Patriotism through Music

The music has been a very important factor for inculcating a feeling of patriotism in the people. Whenever we listen to words of Bhagat Singh and Chandra Sekhar in some songs our blood still boils up with importance of independence in someone's life. Ravindra Nath Tagore wrote many songs while freedom movement and one of them..our National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" for which we still stand for. "Vande Mataram" from Bankim Chandra Chatterji(our National Song) and "Rang De Basanti Chola" and "Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna" by Bhagat Singh or "Kadam Kadam badhaye Ja" by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose(INA) has always been a medium of pride and rememberence for what's Independence worth for us.
This post is just to remind us how music has been connected to out Independence and Patriotism. Just share your favorite patriotic song through this post.

Happy Independence Day......Jai Hind.......

My Favourite Band- The Eagles

The Eagles are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1971 by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner. With five number one singles, six Grammys, five American Music Awards, and six number one albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) and Hotel California, ranked among the 20 best-selling albums in the U.S. according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Hotel California is ranked 37th in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the band was ranked No. 75 on the magazine's 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[2]

They have the best-selling album in the U.S. with Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975), which sold approximately 42 million copies worldwide. They have sold over 120 million albums worldwide, and 100 million in the U.S. alone. They are the fifth-highest-selling music act and highest-selling American band in U.S. history. No other American band sold more records than the Eagles during the 1970s.

The Eagles released their self-titled debut album in 1972 which spawned three Top 40 singles, "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling". They followed up the success of their debut album with Desperado in 1973. The album was less successful than the first, reaching only No. 41 on the charts and neither of its two singles reached the Top 40. However, the album contained two of the band's most popular tracks, "Desperado" and "Tequila Sunrise". They released On the Border in 1974 and added guitarist Don Felder midway through the recording of the album. The album generated two Top 40 singles: "Already Gone" and their first Number One, "Best of My Love".

It was not until 1975's One of These Nights that the Eagles became America's biggest band. The album released three Top 10 singles: "One of These Nights", "Lyin' Eyes", and "Take It to the Limit". They continued with that success in late 1976 with the release of Hotel California, which would go on to sell over 16 million copies in the U.S. alone. The album yielded three Top 20 singles, "New Kid in Town", "Hotel California", and "Life in the Fast Lane". They released their last studio album for nearly 28 years in 1979 with The Long Run, which spawned three Top 10 singles: "Heartache Tonight", "The Long Run", and "I Can't Tell You Why".

The Eagles broke up in July 1980 but reunited in 1994 for Hell Freezes Over, a mix of live and new studio tracks. They have toured intermittently since then and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2007, the Eagles released Long Road Out of Eden, their first full studio album in 28 years. The album would top the album charts, release five singles on the Adult Contemporary Charts and win the band two Grammys. The next year they launched the Long Road Out of Eden Tour in support of the album. The band members have discussed the possibility of making another album.

My Favourite Band: Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is an American rock  band from Sayreville, New Jersey. Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi consists of lead singer and namesake Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.), guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, as well as current bassist Hugh McDonald.[1]  The band's lineup has remained mostly static during their history, the only exception being the departure of Alec John Such in 1994, who was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald. The band became known for writing several rock anthems and achieved widespread recognition with their third album, Slippery When Wet, released in 1986. After touring and recording non-stop during the late 1980s, the band went on hiatus after the New Jersey Tour in 1990, during which time Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora both released successful solo albums. In 1992, the band returned with the album Keep the Faith. Their 2000 single "It's My Life", which followed a second hiatus, successfully introduced the band to a younger audience. Bon Jovi has been known to use different styles in their music, which has included country for their 2007 album Lost Highway. Their latest album, The Circle, was released on November 10, 2009 in the United States.

Throughout their career, the band have released eleven studio albums, three compilation albums and one live album, and have sold 130 million records worldwide.[2] They have performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans,[3] and were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.[4] The band was also honored with the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards in 2004.[5] Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.

My Favourite Band- Agnee

Agnee is an Indian rock band based in Pune. The band's debut album "Agnee" was released on May 15, 2007. Since then, they have released several singles and used an Internet-based free distribution model to gather a large following in the rock music circuit in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Ahmedabad. The band continues to extend its reach across India through their 'Create with Agnee' venture in collaboration with Radio Mirchi.
Agnee's music is a collective of individual styles of composing and performing: Koco with his Classic rock, Pop and Indian influences and Mohan with his Carnatic and Hindustani classical influences.
Agnee's music showcases all of the above and the compositions in the first album vary in style accordingly. The songs move in genre from Folk rock and Pop-Rock to straight up Pop, and incorporate elements of Funk, Jazz and Carnatic music as well.
